WHALE WATCHING COASTAL TOUR (June - November)

The coastal town of Hermanus lies between the fynbos-covered mountains and the waves of the Atlantic, is said to be the world's best land based whale watching spot. It forms the centre of the Cape Whale Route and is surrounded by nature reserves.

Hermanus is an easy 1 hour drive from Cape Town CBD. We drive through well known Grabouw and Elgin, famous for apple farming. You will have the opportunity to stop to explore the apple industry of the Cape and sample the very famous Appletizer, freshly pressed apple juice, or have a leisurely walk through the Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens.

Once we arrive in Hermanus, you will have ample time to explore the Cliff Path Nature area for the best shore based whale watching experience. Here one can watch whales spy-hopping, breaching and lob-tailing. One can also take a whale watching boat trip (this should be pre arranged with the guide).

Hermanus is also a paradise for fishermen from all over the country and one can go down to the New Harbour to watch fishing trawlers unloading their catches. For those who prefer a bit of history can visit the Old Harbour, which is an historic highlight of the town, remaining unchanged from the early days when it was the centre of activity in the fishing village.

After a fun filled visit to Hermanus we make our way back, but not before visiting the picturesque Hemel-en-Aarde Valley for a unique wine tour among the most southern vineyards in Africa. The cool maritime climate and right soil composition combine to make the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley the ideal location for the fussy Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay vines. Treat yourself!

SPRING FLOWER TOUR (August - September)

The West Coast is truly a land of contasts and has limited rainfall, however depending on weather patterns; the region normally has some rainfall towards end of July /beginning of August. Each year, this seemingly arid landscape of sunbaked open plains and harsh granite outcrops bursts into a kaleidoscope of brilliant colours with the first rains of spring, and when the sun makes its appearance, magic happens. Most of the area is covered in a carpet of indigenous flowers in incredible colours.

Join us and experience the magic!

From your hotel in the city, we proceed via Milnerton along the Table Bay coast to Bloubergstrand beach, from where you have the best panoramic views of Table Mountain, as depicted on most postcards. We continue on the West Coast Highway until we reach the West Coast National Park, and pay a leisurely visit to Postberg, an ecologically sensitive area that is specially opened to the public during the brief flower season. Most of the time will be spent in this area so that the flowers can be enjoyed to the fullest.

We drive on to Langebaan, known for its shallow lagoon and its profusion of seabirds. Usually we would lunch at the unique open air seafood restaurant, situated directly on the beach, where you can savour a huge variety of local fish and shellfish.

After lunch we visit the quaint town of Darling, a quaint and very beautiful town, especially during the annual flower season. Darling is also home to South Africa's famous satirist Pieter Dirk Uys and his famous Evita Se Perron museum theatre. We may also have time to taste the local wine made along the West Coast before returning to Cape Town.
