This route starts in the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The beginning of the hike is in the shade of a densely wooded indigenous forest.
It is a relatively steep path, but is well frequented. The route ascends steeply up the ravine and ladders assist hikers in a few steep rocky sections. The forest gradually gives way to local fynbos towards the top and opens up for you to enjoy magnificent views over False Bay, The Constantia Valley and The Hottentots Holland Mountain range.
The descent is via Nursery Ravine and connects with the contour path above Kirstenbosch Gardens and takes us back through the gardens.
Approximately 3-4 hours.
This route is a variation of the latter and is much longer. The initial hike is up Skeleton Gorge(see above), but rather than descending via Nursery Ravine, we make our way to the highest point of Table Mountain.
From the top of the gorge, we hike along the eastern flank of Table Mountain to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point. Enjoy spectacular views over the whole of Table Mountain to the South - all the way to Cape Point, and the entire Cape Town Metropole to the East, North and West.
This is a must-do route as it offers views in all directions, including the reservoirs on the Mountain back table, interesting rock formations and a rich diversity of fynbos vegetation.
Approximately 4-5 hours.
